May 3 – July 1, 2006
Opening Reception
Thursday, May 11, 2006 » 6 – 9 pm
Featuring works by Colin Roberts, Stas Orlovski, Margaret Nielsen, George Herms, Michael Rosenfeld, Anne Hars, Todd Gray and Seth Kauffman. Curated by Heather Harmon and Nicole Dungao.
Seeking to explore how different collisions in our present time are visualized and dealt with by artists, "Brave New World" has a tone of science fiction and surrealism using elements that are both foreign and recognizable. The works explore the collisions between the human and the natural, the animal and the human, the human and the prosthetic and the natural and the synthetic. The visual images in “Brave New World” ask questions that address the human condition but also have a sense of humor about the world that engages the viewer. These artists present new ways of looking at the world that relate to the satirical approach that Huxley had in his novel of the same title.
