Jan Wesley’s first book of poetry, Living in Freefall, was published by Main Street Rag in North Carolina in 2007. Poems have been published in journals and anthologies including Iowa Review, Rattle, Pool, and Psychological Perspectives, and poetry kudos include a Pushcart nomination. She received her MFA at Vermont College and teaches at The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandizing in Los Angeles after retiring from two decades as an editor in the film industry.


Noah Blaustein has had poems in Art/Life, Crazyhorse, Hunger Mountain, Mid-American Review, Lit, Open City, Orion, Rivendell, Solo and Pleiades. He has had featured interviews in The Los Angeles Times Sunday Magazine and on National Public Radio's Weekend Edition Saturday. Most recently, Blaustein taught poetry workshops at the University of Redlands. His poetry manuscript, Neighborhood, has been a finalist for The Alice Jame's Beatrice Hawley Prize, and the Paris Review Prize.


Elena Karina Byrne is an artist, Literary Programs Director for The Ruskin Art Club, an editor with Red Car Studios and poetry teacher for the Idyllwild Arts Academy. A 2008 Pushcart Prize winner, her publications include: The Yale Review, Paris Review, Volt, TriQuarterly, APR , Ploughshares, Antioch Review and Best American Poetry 2005. Books include: The Flammable Bird , MASQUE and forthcoming, This Fable Language, and a collection of essays entitled, Beautiful Insignificance.


Brendan Constantine’s work has appeared in numerous magazines and online journals, most notably Ploughshares, RUNES, ArtLife, The Cortland Review, & The Los Angeles Review. New work can be seen in the anthology The Last American Valentine (WriteBloody Press). A three-time finalist for the National Poetry Series, his book-length collection Letters To Guns is forthcoming from Red Hen Press. Brendan is currently poet in residence at the Windward School in west Los Angeles.

 


About The Third Area

Sarah Maclay serves as artistic director, with curating collective members Frankie Drayus (finalist for the May Swenson Poetry Prize), Dina Hardy (2008 Stegner Fellow), Tess. Lotta (curator of Literati Cocktail reading series and editor for Media Cake eMagazine) and Stephany Prodromides (chapbook manuscript finalist for the 2008 Center for Book Arts and co-host of Redondo Poets reading series) hosting the series on the third Thursday of the month. The Third Area showcases outstanding established and up-and-coming poets as featured guests.
