Carol Potter's latest book, Otherwise Obedient (Red Hen Press 2007), was a finalist for the Lambda Book Awards for GLBT poetry, and her book Short History of Pets won the 1999 Cleveland State Poetry Center Award. She has won a Pushcart Prize and been awarded residencies at MacDowell, Yaddo, Millay Colony of the Arts, Villa Montalvo, and Fundacion Valparaiso in Spain. She has recent poems in The Journal, and Field. She teaches at Antioch University LA.

Carine Topal is the recipient of numerous poetry awards, including the Jane Kenyon Poetry Prize and the 2007 Robert G. Cohn Prose Poetry Award from California Arts and Letters, and she participated in the grassroots organization California Poets in the Schools. Her work has appeared in Water-Stone, Caliban, The Best of the Prose Poem, Greensboro Review and many other journals. Her new collection of poems, In the Heaven of Never Before, was just published by Moon Tide Press.

Richard Beban’s poetry has appeared in more than forty-five periodicals and literary websites, and in sixteen national anthologies, and he has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. His two full-length books of poems are What the Heart Weighs and Young Girl Eating a Bird, both from Red Hen Press. He received an MFA from Antioch University, Los Angeles. He and his wife, Kaaren Kitchell, run a monthly poetry and fiction workshop in Playa del Rey.

Eloise Klein Healy is the author of six books of poetry including Artemis in Echo Park (Firebrand Books), nominated for the Lambda Book Award, and The Islands Project: Poems for Sappho from Red Hen Press. Ms. Healy has been awarded artist residencies at The MacDowell Colony and Dorland Mountain Colony. She is the Founding Chair of the MFA in Creative Writing Program at Antioch University Los Angeles where she is Distinguished Professor of Creative Writing Emerita.

Sarah Maclay serves as artistic director, with curating collective members Frankie Drayus (finalist for the May Swenson Poetry Prize), Dina Hardy (2008 Stegner Fellow), Tess. Lotta (curator of Literati Cocktail reading series and editor for Media Cake eMagazine) and Stephany Prodromides (chapbook manuscript finalist for the 2008 Center for Book Arts and co-host of Redondo Poets reading series) hosting the series on the third Thursday of the month. The Third Area showcases outstanding established and up-and-coming poets as featured guests.
